HAGGAI- PART 3

HAGGAI 2:10-23

Sin affects everything we do (Verse 14). This is true on a national level and a personal level.

It is because of what sin is.

Sometimes it is very important for us to define biblical terms so that we don’t use the term without its genuine application.

Sin is: Any deviation from God’s will and way.

Illustration: How much poison would we be willing to put into our glass of lemonade before we drink it? NONE.

It only takes a drop to ruin the whole glass. It is toxic. It contaminates the entire glass with a tiny drop.

Sin carries the toxicity.

Sin DOES limit the blessings in life.

  1. Sometimes the teachings of suffering in the Christian life can overshadow, that the Bible does teach us that there are blessings we receive when we live a surrendered life.
    1. These blessings are from the goodness of God, and not every Christian act brings a blessing.
    2. Not every bad thing that comes is because of our personal sin (consider Job/Joseph/Paul/Barnabas)
  2. The concept is that a Christian life may be filled with hardship, but it is simultaneously filled with great blessings.
    1. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.  Psalm 37:4-6
    2. 13  I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!  — Psalm 27:13-14
    3. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. — Galatians 6:7-10
