Great is Thy Faithfulness

In 1923, Thomas O. Chisholm wrote the well-known hymn entitled “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”.  It is believed that he wrote this hymn to simply reflect that God is working in our lives even in the simplest of ways.  Chisholm had experienced God working in his own life during a time when his health was poor.  As he reflected on this time, he saw the many ways that the Lord had made provisions for him.

More often than not, the Lord provides for us daily in many seemingly small ways.  While He does provide for us in mighty ways sometimes, His faithfulness is seen as Chisholm states in the “simple things.”  When we take time to reflect on God’s faithfulness in the past, we cannot help but be assured of His faithfulness in the future.

Below are a few verses that speak of the Lord’s faithfulness.  Take some time to read and to pray through these verses.  Afterward, take time to thank Him for His great faithfulness in your own life.

Psalm 36:5 – “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”

Psalm 119:90 – “Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.”

Lamentations 3:21-23 – “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 – “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 – “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”

Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
